Asleep in the Fields

We forgot to pay the rent again,
our chiming eyes climb like vines
in the coded cracks of the crumbling cement.
We were unbearably free,
unburdened even by our dreams.
Listen to those idle things,
pitiful, asleep in the fields.
We've come to get carried away
on the waning breath of Summer days,
our bodies brimming with noise,
Cicadas unfazed by the droning heat.
We walked down Rosemary Street,
decades of fliers at our feet.
The years' sweet colors peel away
in the rain ruined splendor.

Audubon Park
Audubon Park is bright pink tornado, a summer pasture, a Friday in fall, ears ringing and ringing on the way to the beach.
